This programme is split into two key parts: a technical qualification and Functional Skills.
On successful completion, you’ll be able to undertake a wide range of information technology courses.
Entry requirements- Minimum of two GCSEs at grade D or equivalent - one of which must be English or maths.
- Familiarity with computers and computer terminology would be an advantage
You will need to attend an interview with the tutor before being accepted on to the course. You may also need to supply at least one written reference from a teacher or employer (in some cases two) and/or your current school or college report.
Mature students (those aged 21 or over) who do not have the qualifications required for entry may still be eligible, subject to an interview. Relevant experience, a strong portfolio of work and a commitment to the subject you wish to study may be acceptable for certain courses.
Start dates and feesYou will be given access to all the software and hardware that you will need to complete this course, however we do suggest that you purchase a box file and several plastic document wallets to help you store and present your work. A data stick is also essential.

Location- Derby Road
The course is mainly assessed on the coursework that you complete. You will be set a number of assignments to challenge and test your knowledge throughout the course.
What does the course lead to?This course will prepare you for employment and provides a good grounding to go onto a more advanced course. Normally a candidate needs to show a high level of performance and commitment to progress onto our Level 3 course (Merit or Distinctions at Level 2). With further training or study you can go onto a career as a trainee programmer, trainee web developer or a role in IT services.
What will I study?The diploma is made up of 14 units, allowing you to further develop your skills in areas such as:

- Software
- Multimedia
It is an entry requirement for some courses to have gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths (see entry requirements). If the entry requirements to a course do not require A*-C in these subjects, and you haven’t already gained GCSEs A*-C in English and maths before joining us, you will continue to study English and maths as part of your programme and take appropriate qualifications in these subjects with the aim of achieving A* to C grade. In addition, to help you gain essential skills for employment, every student aged under 19 and studying a full-time course at college will take part in our study programmes alongside their main subject qualification.
