Who is this course for? Those students wishing to develop their skills in both ICT and Media at level 3. 2 National Certificates are studied. The National Certificate in Media Production and the National Certificate for IT Practitioners (Networking). Please note that this programme is a continuation of the Combined Awards Programme. Each National Certificate is equivalent to 2 'A' levels. Successful candidates will leave college with the equivalent of 4 A Levels in total. Appropriate UCAS points are awarded allowing learners to progress to university. The programme is designed to allow learners to be flexible in these areas allowing greater choice when applying to university or work.
Previous knowledge required: A genuine interest and the desire to succeed in either the ICT or Media Industry. Students should have successfully completed the combined National Awards Programme.
What will I study? The course is designed to meet the needs of the Media and ICT industries. Students study a number of core and optional units in the following areas: Employability for IT, Information Systems, Advanced Database and Spreadsheet Skills, IT Trouble Shooting & Repair, Computer Game Story Development, Digital Graphics, 3D Modelling, Web Animation for Interactive Media.
What else will I do? Students will also study BCS Digital Cre8or. All students will have the opportunity to receive tuition in Key Skills (Application of Number and Communication) and/or undertake a GCSE re-sit in Maths or English.
How will I be assessed? By completing assignments based on real work scenarios students will develop skills that will help in university or work. Short portfolios are required for Digital Photography and Image Editing. There are no examinations at the end of the course.
What will I achieve? National Certificate in Media Production and the National Certificate for IT Practitioners (Networking). BCS Digital Cre8or and a range of Key Skills.
What can I do afterwards? Successful candidates can progress directly to university or enter the world of work. There are a variety of potential careers to explore. E.g. Games Tester, Games Developer, Media Technician, ICT Technician, Web Developer, TV or Film Technician, Events Management.
Materials required: You may need to buy a course text book and might like to use your own digital camera, although a number of basic models are available for use during class sessions
