The progression within the ICT disciplines is to the following courses offered by the College:
IT (QCF) LEVEL 3 BTEC 90 CREDIT DIPLOMA
IT (QCF) LEVEL 3 BTEC SUBSIDIARY DIPLOMA
ICT (QCF) LEVEL 3 BTEC EXTENDED DIPLOMA
IT WBL INTERMEDIATE APPRENTICESHIP
Progression to other courses is also possible.
Exceptionally, older students may progress onto a Higher Education Access or Higher National Certificate course. Students can pursue entry level employment or apprenticeships with commercial or industrial companies employing ICT skills.
You must be age 16+;
1 Grade C pass at GCSE;
3 Grade D passes at GCSE; (Ideally these should include English and maths or be accompanied by level 2 Essential Skills in Numeracy and Literacy.)
Acceptance onto the course is by an assessment key skills followed by an interview with a member of the course academic team.

Course programme
The course will enable you to:
1) use ICT for the presentation and manipulation of information;
2) gain knowledge and understanding of the prominent features of ICT as used across many industry, commerce and service sectors;
3) gain knowledge and understanding of the hardware and software used to provide ICT services;
4) learn and apply the basic skills and techniques needed by those working in the ICT industries;
5) develop an appreciation of the role played by ICT in society as a whole.
"The Online World" and "Technology Systems" are each assessed via an online test. The remaining non-compulsory units are assessed via the "Digital portfolio", which provides an challenging and up to date method of presenting your skills.
There are 3 compulsory units:
- The online world;
- Technology systems;
- Digital portfolio.
In addition, you will study some of the following units:
- Mobile Apps development;
- Spreadsheet development;
- Database development;
- Website development;
- Installing and maintaining computer hardware;
- Installing and maintaining computer software.
