About this course
You will generally need four relevant GCSEs at grade C or above or an appropriate NVQ Level 2, BTEC First Diploma or Intermediate GNVQ with a satisfactory grade. Mature students are welcome to apply without formal qualifications but subject to satisfactory interview and the outcome of initial guidance.

What will I study? The BTEC National Certificate IT Practitioners is a 12 unit qualification. Each Certificate comprises four common core units, one mandatory unit and seven specialist units. The Core Units include; Communication and Employability Skills for IT, Information Systems, Computer Systems and Impact of the Use of IT on Business Systems. Specialist skills are selected from a range and may include: e-commerce, Event Driven Programming, Advanced Spreadsheet Skills, IT Systems Troubleshooting and Repair, Website Production and Management and Principles of Software Design and Development.
What else will I do? Students on a 2 year full time basis will also study for the National Award in Interactive Media. Units include Research Techniques for the Media Industry, Pre-Production Techniques and Video Production.
How will I be assessed? You will be assessed through coursework.
What will I achieve? You will achieve a BTEC National Certificate in IT Practitioners (equivalent to 2 A levels) and a National Award in Interactive Media (1 A Level).
