IT Practitioners First Diploma
If you are interested in pursuing a career in the IT industry, the First Diploma offers a broad based and relevant course of study to get you started.

What does the course involve?
The First Diploma is an excellent qualification for those people who are seriously considering a future in IT, but who have not quite gained the qualifications necessary to progress straight on to a level 3 course. Most First Diploma students will retake GCSE Maths and English if they have not yet achieved at least a C in these subjects.

What will I study?
The course is unit based, offering 6 internally assessed units over 10 hours per week for 1 year, and it is equivalent to four GCSEs grade A - C. After completing the year, many students go on to the IT Practitioners National Diploma or Certificate courses, which lasts a further two years.

Each unit combines practical work on computers with theory lessons covering the underpinning concepts and knowledge. The units have been chosen to give students an opportunity to gain skills and knowledge in the main areas within ICT and Computing. Students will learn how to create databases, design web sites, assemble hardware, and see how computer systems are used within organisations. They will also have opportunities to practice the skills necessary to be successful on vocational, coursework assessed qualifications, such as achieving deadlines and reviewing progress against set criteria.

The course is assessed by coursework throughout the year.
