The Programme
ITWork is an introductory programme in IT. You will study for about 14 hours per week. This includes Tutorial and Key Skills. The aim is to give you a broad knowledge of IT systems and also to develop the personal qualities you will need to be a successful IT professional. The course has eight units. These cover a range of IT subjects and will also improve your skills at finding employment. All units must be achieved to gain a pass. Higher grades can also be achieved (Merit or Distinction).
The Programme Content

Unit 1 Starting work in the IT industry: Research different types of jobs which are available in the IT Sector.
Unit 2 Working in the IT Industry: You will research the conditions which affect different types of IT jobs.
Unit 3 Developing Skills in IT: You will do practical work using Microsoft Windows.
Unit 4 Personal Effectiveness: You will prepare a personal portfolio which explains the skills and qualities you could bring to an IT job.
Unit 6 Financial Management: Using a spreadsheet, you will prepare a personal budget.
Unit 7 PC Systems: You will research and design a PC system.
Unit 8 Using the Internet: You will use email and research a range of web sites.
Unit 10 Digital Devices: You will use a digital camera and a scanner.
Units are assessed by coursework
Progression / Careers
This is a Level 1 course in IT. The aim is to give you a good introduction to IT. You may progress to a Level 2 course (GCSE standard), and then onto Level 3 (A Level standard).
With further training or study, students go into careers such as:
