Italian Advanced Conversation (Leisure)

Course Aims:
This is a leisure course for those who have studied the language to an advanced level and who wish to maintain a high standard without taking any exam. Students taking this course may well have studied the language at A level or equivalent, been part of language and culture classes for a number of years or have lived for a substantial period of time in a country where the language is spoken. It is designed for students who already have a good level of language and is definitely not just a survival or basic course.

The course aims to develop confidence and a positive attitude to speaking and discussing in the language. It aims to enable students to communicate clearly and effectively.

Course Content:
Course content is determined by tutor and students and will vary from one language to another. The tutor will be receptive to requests for information about and discussion of particular themes as well as able to advise on where to find out more. Classes are geared towards conversation and discussion of topics in the foreign language. Listening and speaking skills are therefore foremost but in order for students fully to benefit from the course, reading material will be recommended and provided as a basis for discussion and, invariably, tutors will touch upon areas of language and grammar as they arise. Taught by native speakers or those immersed in the culture and traditions, the courses aims to convey an enthusiasm for the country, its people and language and to give you the confidence to talk in greater depth about a variety of subjects.

Progression:
Further advanced courses, possibly concentrating on conversation.Some may also be encouraged to take on a vocational course or even a diploma or degree.

Exam:
There is no formal assessment but the tutor will, in feeding back and advising, help you to improve your knowledge of language and culture.
