One of the main aims of the ITEC Level 3 Diploma Sports Massage is to enable candidates to provide treatments which may help to improve an athlete's performance through pre and post event massage.
Also, non-athletes often have painful conditions sometimes resulting from long term postural and/or occupational stresses, which also need to be identified and altered, if possible, using specialized remedial massage techniques that are a feature of Sports Massage.

Massage helps alleviate the stress and tension that can build up in the body's soft tissues (muscles, tendons and ligaments). Sports Massage takes on a special role in helping to enhance performance and prevent injury, by promoting recovery and monitoring the condition of the tissues.
As well as the general therapeutic value of massage, it can also safely and effectively deal with many minor soft tissue problems (these are by far the most common) which often cause considerable pain in the short term, sometimes leading to serious long-term problems. Most injuries in sport are through overuse and the cause needs to be identified and remedied, otherwise the injury is likely to recur - non-sports people often have the same problems!
Students will study the theory of all treatments as well as additional anatomy, in particular focusing on the muscles and their actions,
