ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Holistic Massage or ITEC Level 3 Diploma in Body Treatment or equivalent Massage
Diploma to ITEC’s approval. These must have included Level 3 Diploma in Anatomy & Physiology or
equivalent level module approved by ITEC.

Gail Walkingshaw is the Principal of the Edinburgh Therapy Academy and has a thriving complimentary therapy business in her home clinic. Once Gail finished her BSc(Hons) Dietetics from Queen Margaret’s College Edinburgh she started her therapy career with Judith Craig, the Founder of the School in 1999 as one of the very first students, studying Reflexology. Over the years she went on to gain qualifications in Holistic Massage, Aromatherapy, Indian Head Massage, Thermo-Auricular Therapy, Remedial and Sports Massage and finally a Diploma in Teaching Complimentary therapies.

What is Remedial Massage?
Objectives are to
- reduce pain
- Increase range of motion
- restore appropriate balance
Remedial techniques aim to return an individual to as near normal mobility as possible.
What is Sports Massage?
Objectives are to:
- Support the sportsman during training
- Enhance Athletic performance
- Reduce the risk of re-injury
As well as all above objectives that Remedial techniques achieve
The ITEC Diploma Course
The Diploma provides an in depth understanding of the mechanics of sports injury and a complete range of techniques to treat pathology safely and successfully.
The techniques build upon the Holistic massage techniques by adding;
- Advanced consultation skills with safety check techniques
- Assessment procedures to accurately identify conditions and injuries
- Myofacial, Neuromuscular, Muscle Energy Techniques,
- Soft tissue release
- Connective tissue massage(CTM) & Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF)
- Stretching appropriate to specific muscle groups and exercise
- Active Passive and resistive movements
- Joint and Spinal mobilisation techniques
Further study looking at specific areas of Anatomy & Physiology is required and is part of the extensive training sessions.
Assessment
There is a 1hour theory exam which is 50 multiple choice questions for Sports Massage and a 1hour long Practical Assessment with an ITEC appointed external examiner. There is also a case study load of 5 clients each to be treated 3 times thus giving 15 documented treatments.
Course Duration
Eight full weekends of contact time from 9am – 5.30pm on the Saturday & Sunday inclusive of a final day of Exam which may be on a Saturday but this will be confirmed in the first two months of the course starting. (100 Hours recommended guided learning hours)
Course Fees & Payment Method
Course Fees include all of the Following:
- Attendance at intensive training days as designated
- Home Study pack with notes and diagrammatic materials.
- A personal copy of the recommended course text.
- All first sitting examination fees for Theory and Practical exams.
Course Fees can be settled in two ways:
- Full payment prior to or on 1st day of training (discount given)
- Or Pay balance in three designated instalments, the first being due on 1st day of the course.
