Course programme

ITQ is a nationally recognised and flexible vocational qualification designed to develop the application of IT skills and knowledge in a real setting within the work environment. The qualification is available at three levels and is highly customisable allowing the creation of a unique programme that takes into consideration existing skills and qualifications, and which is directly relevant to individual job role and employer needs.

Programme content and objectives are personalised to each learner based upon an analysis of existing skills and knowledge and those required within the workplace. Day to day work tasks provide opportunities to be involved in a wide range of IT based activities; examples include emailing internal and external clients, using IT software, maintaining an intranet and designing a website.

Start Date

On demand and in the workplace to suit employer and employee needs.

Programme Content

The ITQ is based upon a points system and points are achieved by the completion of individual units that make up the qualification. Each unit has an individual points value which differs according to the level of NVQ undertaken. Candidates must achieve a set number of points as specified for the job role:

• Level 1 (Foundation) = 40 points
• Level 2 (Intermediate) = 100 points
• Level 3 (Advanced) = 180 points

Level 1 units have the smallest points value and Level 3 units have the largest points value. The individual points value of a unit within a level can differ and is determined by the amount of knowledge /skills contained within it. Each level contains one mandatory unit and learners must choose from 16 optional groups of units to achieve the points required to achieve the qualification. The unique mix of units and levels achieved provides a ‘spikey profile’ for each learner.

Mandatory Units

• Make selective use of IT

Optional Units

Assessment Process

Each unit is assessed through the observation and questioning of normal activities within the workplace and the development of a portfolio within which learners collect electronic, paper and witness statement evidence that they have covered the skills/knowledge required for the unit. Learners are also required to create reflective accounts of their work for inclusion in the portfolio.

Learners who do not complete the whole qualification can gain certification for those units they have successfully achieved.
