Japanese Absolute Beginners level 1

Your Course
This 10 week course will suit beginners who have no previous knowledge of Japanese or those who need to refresh their memories. The aim of the course is to develop your confidence and ability to communicate effectively in authentic situations such as social occasions, towns, hotels and shops. The focus of the course is on conversation, i.e. listening and speaking. Handouts will be provided by the tutor.
This course feeds into Beginners Level 2 in the summer term 2010 and Beginners Level 3 in the autumn term 2010. During the Absolute Beginners course students will take a short internal assessment in listening. This will help to prepare them for the OCR Asset language external test that will be taken at the end of the Beginners' year.
The course book isJapanese for Busy People 1revised 3rd version Romanised Version[Kodansha International] by the Association for Japanese Language Teaching.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the 10 week course you will have been given the opportunity to:
· Greet people and introduce yourself
· Use numbers
· Ask the size, colour and country of origin of an item and say how many you need in a shop
· Talk about the times and dates
· Take part in a simple conversation about holidays and the weekend
· Talk about the whereabouts of things and people
· Spell your name in Japanese

Your Tutor

Akiko Mera is a native Japanese speaker and has worked in education in Japan for over five years. Based on her experience of both teaching Japanese to English speakers in Japan and working in a commercial Japanese environment she is able to offer you a stimulating and practical introduction to the Japanese language and culture.
Day and time: Wednesday 7-9 pm

Tuition fees: £ 95

Method of payment: Fees for short courses (10 weeks or less) to be paid in full at enrolment and for long courses (12 weeks or more) fees of 50% can be paid at enrolment plus 50% as a cheque. Course places cannot be reserved without receipt of both payments.

Please note that there are no classes during half term Monday 15th - Friday 19th February 2010 unless otherwise stated.
