Jewellery - Art and Design - GCSE
Summary
The course offers a practical introduction to jewellery making techniques and design principles. This GCSE offers a relevant addition in skills, transferable to any Art and Design course.
About the Course
The course entails 60 hours of study in the workshop at Totton College where the main focus will be on developing your technical skills and design ideas. It is also expected that you will be able to spend at least two hours per week of your own time carrying out research and in presenting the work for your assignments. You will be encouraged to explore a variety of mediums and materials.
Jewellery making techniques will include piercing and sawing, soldering, bending and forming, hot and cold joining and decorative treatments.
You will be advised of tool and material suppliers in the first lesson.

How is the course assessed?
The Assessment consists of:
* Two coursework assignments - 60%
* One externally set assignment - 40%
Are there any resources to obtain?
You will be expected to purchase materials such as metals, stones and saw blades etc, as required, and will be advised of suppliers. There are some tools available in the workshop, but students would find it beneficial to build up their own basic kit so they may work at home. A list of recommended tools will be supplied at the first lesson.
