Course programme

You will be introduced to a number of skills suitable for making jewellery and other decorative items at home. Metal Clay is a modern combination of silversmithing (or metal craft), combined with pottery. Starting with the non-precious clays, you will use a variety of metals in both the powdered and ready made formats. These metal clays are much cheaper than the silver clays that many will have heard of. The skills required for all the metal clays are very similar and so this course can be used as an excellent springboard to anyone who intends to use silver clay. Learners will explore texture – imprinting and painting with the damp clay, carving and etching with the dry clays, as well as understanding the way they work, learn finishing, firing and polishing.
