Programme Summary
Key Skills and Skills for Life are those skills most often needed to succeed at work and in everyday life. All jobs involve the need to communicate effectively with others and to work with numbers at some level. Most jobs now also require an understanding of technology. When carrying out our normal day to day activities we continually resolve problems and almost always work with others as part of a team. These are all key skills and to ensure an effective workforce it is therefore important that you ensure all team members develop their skills in these areas.
The uke learning Key Skills and Skills for Life programme is highly flexible and can be adapted to suit individual needs, with day to day work tasks providing opportunities to develop and extend the key skills of your workforce. Each skill can be assessed and achieved as a stand alone qualification although delivery may form part of a broader learning programme involving achievement of other qualifications. Typically, key skills can be developed as part of an NVQ and skills learned will help to improve further learning and work performance. This will lead to greater success and independence in the way your team achieve and perform in all areas of their work.
Start Date
On demand and either distance learning or taught session in the workplace to suit employer and employee needs.

Assessment Process
Skills for Life
Candidates follow a programme of support which begins with an initial assessment and investigation into a learner’s skills and matches them to an appropriate programme of development at a level which suits their abilities and needs. At the end of each programme learners must sit and pass an electronic test to gain successful certification at the chosen level. The test for adult literacy and adult numeracy at levels 1 and 2 is the same test for the equivalent key skills qualification. Achievement of the test offers exemption from the test component of the equivalent key skills and makes key skills an obvious progression route for adult literacy and numeracy candidates as they will only be required to complete the portfolio component.
Key Skills
Each key skill is assessed through the observation and questioning of normal activities within the workplace and the development of a portfolio within which learners collect electronic, paper and witness statement evidence that they have covered the skills/knowledge required for the qualification. uke learning assessors will work with each candidate to provide a suitable list of tasks that will provide evidence for the portfolio. At the end of each programme candidates sit an electronic test and as soon as each key skill has been successfully achieved, a certificate will be awarded to prove proficiency in that skill.
Length of Programme
We support learners and set standards to enable participants to achieve targets and personal goals at an agreed pace. All learners are supported by the dedicated uke learning skills team who provide advice, guidance and support in the workplace throughout the duration of the programme.
The qualification is approved for use with 16-19 year olds and adult learners and maps to the National Qualification Framework.
