2. Course description This one-year course, often taken during the second year in college, will give you an understanding of the personal and academic requirements for a career in teaching, and the practicalities of classroom life. You will study several topics, including Educational Psychology (how children learn), Intellectual and Language Development, and Personal/Classroom Skills. You will also carry out a practical placement in a local primary or secondary school. By the end of the course you should understand the main theoretical, practical and academic aspects of teaching and be in a position to apply for teacher training through the UCAS system.

3. Entry requirements You must have at least a GCSE grade C in English Language, Mathematics and Science, and some IT competence, in order to apply for a teacher training course. Additional Science may be necessary for some primary BEd courses and you may find that some universities require a grade B in English Language. You will normally be studying a minimum of three 'A' Levels, with one or more in National Curriculum subjects. You can study the Pre-Teaching Award alongside these 'A' Levels, usually in the second year of your 'A' level programme. It may be possible to study the Pre-Teaching course alongside AS levels if a retake of one GCSE is required; discuss this option with the course leader. 4. Equipment required No equipment required 5.
