Additional skills and qualifications

When your learning agreement is discussed with your tutor early in the first term, you will be advised of extra skills and qualifications which are built into the course programme. These secondary learning goals are selected on the basis of their importance to the industry/career in which you are interested and examples may include the National Proficiency Test Council Certificate of Competence in Tractor Operations and an All Terrain Vehicle Certificate.

The course is very practical and provides excellent experience for those students who will benefit from a hands-on approach to go with understanding and knowledge gained in the classroom.

Students will also be encouraged to continue their development in the areas of communication, numeracy and Information Technology.

This provides opportunities for considerable personal development, a solid foundation for progression to further courses and to develop a career working in the complex and technical industry that is modern agriculture.

Progression opportunities

The Agricultural industry is in need of skilled operators and there is a strong chance of progression into agricultural employment, either following this course or further training.

Successful completion of the course will allow progression to higher level courses at National Certificate level or, depending on grades achieved, the National Diploma in Agriculture or National Diploma in Landbased Technology.

Preferred entry requirements

Students may be accepted directly after leaving school. Previous experience is not essential. Applicants would be expected to have performed at least creditably at GCSE Level and be recommended by their school.
