Aim This is a practical, work based course which will give you the opportunity to develop the skills needed for a career in Agriculture.
Content Core units
· Safe and effective working practices in land-based industries
· Develop performance in land-based industries.

Plus ONE specialist core unit from
· Use transport and assist with the maintenance of tools and equipment
· Introduction to wildlife and conservation.

Plus FOUR optional units from
· Industrial experience in land-based industries
· Assist with maintaining the health and wellbeing of animals
· Assist with the care of animals
· Assist with the movement, handling and accommodation of animals
· Assist with the repair and maintenance of structures in the countryside
· Introduction to wildlife and conservation
· Assist with the establishment of plants and sites in the countryside
· Assist with the maintenance of plants and sites in the countryside.

You learn by completing projects, practical tasks and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. It covers the basic knowledge and technical practical skills, providing a good foundation for future career opportunities or progression to a more advanced qualification.

Progression/career opportunities This course is a good introduction to the agricultural industry and can lead to careers in the industry or progression to a 1st Diploma in Agriculture or Animal Care or the Higher Diploma in Environmental and Land Based Studies.

Screening
Students will also be screened (in the College) and must achieve literacy and numeracy at the level appropriate to the course.
