About this course
Amongst your GCSEs you will need at least grade C English. No previous knowledge of the law is required. Many of our students have progressed to reading Law at university. Alternatively, it is a valuable qualification for a range of professional careers such as the police, social work, banking and being a legal executive. About the Course
AS Level
* Judges and Magistrates: their effectiveness and judicial independence
* Barristers and Solicitors: their roles and standard of service
* Police Powers: powers of the police to stop and search, arrest and detain at the police station.
* Miscarriages of Justice: and how they occurred
* The Courts: trials in the civil and criminal courts
* Aims of sentencing, eg rehabilitation or punishment. Types of sentences, eg community orders or fines
* European Law: and its effect upon our legal system
* How to obtain and pay for legal advice (legal aid)
You will assess realistic legal problems and apply your knowledge of the law to reach solutions. AS Law combines well with any other AS or A2 subject.
A2 Level
* The making of a legally binding agreement
* The rights of a consumer, if goods are faulty and need repairing
* Making a contract through false descriptions or statements made by the seller
* An agreement made through threats of personal injury or economic blackmail
* Appropriate legal remedies such as damages and injunctions
* The influence of European Law on unfair terms
You will be involved in assessing realistic legal problems and applying the appropriate laws to achieve solutions. This in turn will encourage your development of critical and analytical skills.

How is the course assessed?
Assessment is by written modular examinations. There is no coursework.
Fees
No Course Fees for Under 19's. Over 19's must pay, or claim Level 2 or Level 3 Entitlement for FREE courses .
What next?
A Level Law provides a qualification for higher education and gives you an excellent introduction to studying for a Law degree.
