Law AS and A2

Subject category:
Business, Economics and Law

What will I study?
The study of Law involves the development of a range of skills including the analysis of legal principles and the evaluation of conceptual ideas.

Duration:
One year for AS Level and a further year to complete A Level.

Do I need any additional qualifications/ skills?
This is a very demanding course which progresses at a fast pace and requires the ability to retain and apply detailed and specific information. It therefore requires a high level of commitment due to the additional study outside the classroom, and you should expect to have an essay a week to produce, as well as prepare for weekly tests and half termly mock exams.

How will I be assessed?
By examination.

What can I do afterwards?
The study of Law is a useful introduction to many different careers or areas of higher education. It combines well with most subjects, but in particular Politics, History, Economics, Philosophy, Sociology and English. It is also of interest in its own right as laws affect us all on a daily basis. Law is a widely respected A Level, however if you are planning to go on to study Law at a particular university, you should check that they will take A Level Law into consideration, as there are still a few universities who prefer you not to have studied law previously.

Are there any additional costs involved?
Compulsory purchase of the course text books which is approximately £20 per year. There will also be costs associated with trips to experience the law in action.
