Course Description
This course consists of three 90 minute sessions per week. Sessions will consist of lectures, group work, debates and research. Entry Requirements
5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, usually including English and Maths.

Modules Studied:

  • The English Legal System - this involves the study of legal systems such as the courts and the police. It also includes the study of legal personnel such as judges and solicitors and barristers.
  • Sources of Law - this involves looking at where law comes from, such as Parliament and the European Union.
  • Criminal Law - this involves the study of a variety of crimes, including murder, manslaughter and robbery.
  • Synoptic Unit - this also concentrates on Criminal Law, but requires a link to be made with AS knowledge.

Duration: 2 years

Attendance Modes: Day

Assessment: AS is assessed by two written exams. The English Legal System paper is two hours and the Sources of Law paper one hour. A2 is also assessed by two written exams. The Criminal Law paper is two hours, and Criminal Law Special Study paper is 1.5 hours.

Progression Routes: Many students go on to study Law Degrees, but the skills developed in law are a sound basis for any further study. Some students use the qualification to work in areas such as the courts and the police.
