What will I study?
AS: The main areas of study are Law making and the Legal System and some aspects of criminal and civil liability. This includes laws made by parliament and the judiciary, the criminal and civil justice system and specific areas of law such as non-fatal offences (including assault, battery, actual bodily harm and grievous bodily harm) and negligence and the related sentences/sanctions
A2: The options taught are Criminal Law and Tort. Knowledge acquired in the AS Modules will be further developed. The crime option includes study of the fatal offences and defences; the Tort option includes the study of Negligence, Nuisance, Occupiers Liability and defences.
In addition, key concepts are also investigated such as the relationship between law and morals, law and justice, the importance of fault in Criminal and Civil Law and the way in which competing interests are balanced, particularly in the ever-expanding area of Human Rights.
Study Visits
A number of day and half-day visits to Crown Court, Magistrates Court and Nottingham Galleries of Justice.
Cost
There is no charge for visits to courts. Other day trips will normally cost approximately £10.
