Coaching and mentoring is now viewed as an essential part of a leader or manager's toolkit. Organisations increasingly need to improve and change, developing independent, questioning employees who seek feedback and growth and leaders need to be equipped with the skills to meet their team's development needs, while encouraging self-reliance and creative problem solving.
Our new Postgraduate Certificate in Leadership and Management (Coaching and Mentoring) is designed to enhance and develop your knowledge and skills in this area, by giving you a critical understanding of some of the contemporary theory, practice and research in this field and then challenging you to demonstrate originality in the way you lead and manage your teams and organisations.
It will be of significant value to you, whether you are already working in a leadership or management position, or seeking to take your career along that path.
Learning from, and through, experience
The course has a strong practical bias, so the coaching and mentoring theories are taught in relation to the experiences of the participants on the programme. We use students' own case studies to enrich the classroom experience and encourage debate as well as drawing on the experiences of our tutors, who are all accomplished practitioners themselves.
The skills to lead and succeed
You will develop the transferable skills that are vital to be a successful leader or manager today from creative problem solving, to understanding interpersonal dynamics at work, to leading with a strong sense of social responsibility. You will also develop valuable self-reflection skills that you can take with you, as you develop and progress as a successful leadership practitioner.
Flexible learning options
We offer two different options as Postgraduate Certificates in Leadership and Management: this course, which focuses in particular on developing your coaching and mentoring skills, and the Postgraduate Certificate Leadership and...

You will have high levels of autonomy, and be encouraged to share your own experiences and ground your learning in the realities of the workplace.

We will challenge your existing perspectives, encourage creative thinking, and develop self-reflection skills and much of the material will have direct relevance to your career and lifelong learning.

You are expected to spend approximately 150 hours worth of time on each module, including the time spent in taught sessions and supervision.

Assessment

A range of assessments are used across the modules. All aim to test your ability to link the theory to current practice, and link in to your personal and professional development needs. Each assessment includes a self-reflective element, with a mix of essays, portfolio development, case study analysis and mini-presentations. You will have around six weeks to complete your assessments after the end of each module.
