This one day course gives participants the basic electrical knowledge needed to understand the subject matter. The course then progresses to look at the code of practice for In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment produced by the Institute of Electrical Engineers.
Participants will learn how to carry out portable appliance testing both by visual inspection and using test instruments, and they will also learn how to correctly complete testing records. They will then take a practical assessment and multiple-choice examination.
This program will also be addressing electrical safety in the workplace and elsewhere. Included in this is the role of regulations and the responsibilities of the duty holder, insulation and earthing of appliances and equipment, classification of appliances, preliminary Inspections and pre test precautions.
Participants will also be taught how to use a portable appliance tester and the required tests and optional tests. The labelling of assets and bar coding will be covered, as well as maintaining the asset register. Participants will have to report and record their results and a practical assessment of their skills will be taken.
This course is suitable for: both non-elecrical and electrical personnel wishing to carry-out Portable Appliance Testing.
