At Cambridge Law Studio we receive hundreds of requests from teachers around the world for help with teaching lawyers, law students, judges and court interpreters. We now host intensive training course for EFL professionals who are interested in learning more about this specialist area.

About the Legal English Teacher Training Course

We offer thorough yet understandable guidance on the vocabulary and style appropriate in today's legal environment. Any teacher who completes the course will leave us confident that he or she can help and advise future students in an appropriate and beneficial way. The course is suitable preparation for one-to-one training or for working with an inter-active group.

The course is consist of 18 academic hours of tuition. This includes information on relevant areas of law, learning by doing, materials development and guidance on how to prepare students for the TOLES (Test of Legal English Skills) exams. The courses are be led by experienced trainers, who have carried out training in legal English for a variety of clients including major law firms and The Law Society of England and Wales.

Course Includes

  • Study Skills for the legal profession. How to prepare these students for learning effectively.
  • The vocabulary of contract law and how to cope when teaching the language of contract drafted in English.

  • The vocabulary of commercial law and how to deal with complex commercial documents with all levels of learner.

  • Suing and claiming - the ever growing importance of the language of compensation.

  • Building lessons from authentic sources and keeping up to date. Where to find materials and how to use them in the classroom.

  • What students want and what to avoid - the feedback from our own clients and how to design useful and relevant lessons.

  • All you need to know about TOLES as an exam or just as a teaching resource.

  • A file of photocopiable foundation materials to take away and use in your classroom.
