You'll be learning about all aspects of horticulture on this course, including how to grow plants from seeds, landscaping, looking after turf, and using tools and equipment.
It will give you your first taste of what working in horticulture is like, as you look after the green areas in and around St Helens College, Sherdley Park and Walton Hall Gardens.

Course programme
During this course, you will cover the following units:
- Maintaining health and safety working practices
- Assisting with establishing plants
- Assisting with maintaining plants
In addition to the above, you will also have the opportunity to choose from the following:
- Assisting with propagation of plants by seed
- Assisting with propagation of plants by vegetative methods
- Assisting with identifying the presence of and controlling common pests and diseases
- Maintaining turf
- Use of horticulture machinery i.e. strimmers, cultivator, hedge trimmers
