This is a practical, hands-on programme ensuring regular contact with the software. The unit offered includes:
Use associated IT and CAD hardware and operating system;
Use basic file management techniques and maintain health and safety requirements;
Use and identify key components of the software relating to the 2D drawing environment;
Use a range of viewing commands and set up the drawing space;
Use drawing commands to produce shapes;
Use the CAD software's co-ordinate system to aid accurate drawing;
Use hatch, dimensioning routines, blocks and attributes;
Use viewports to create drawings for manufacture;
Use basic editing commands and produce simple hard copies;
Use software shortcuts to enable quick commands.

About this course
Programme duration is flexible and dependent on progress with attendance Thursdays 6.30–8.30pm. In general it takes one year to complete the unit. Students will be supported by a study pack, which will guide them through the programme with tutorial support by experienced users.

Course programme
Students will achieve a City & Guilds Level 2 Award in 2D Computer Aided Design 7579-02 demonstrating that they are competent to the level stated upon successful completion of Unit 201. This is a nationally recognised qualification within the industry.
Students' competence will be assessed by both practical assignments and multiple-choice tests. The Centre administers the assessments and students can take them at any time that the tutor considers appropriate.
