This course builds on the skills gained in the Level 2 Introductory Counselling Skills (ICSK-L2) course, and introduces basic theoretical ideas.

You will develop your knowledge and skills in listening, reflection and self awareness.

If this is an evening fast track course there will be four additional Saturdays included in this course.
Course contentThe qualification contains the following units:
Use counselling skills ethically and safely.
Establish and sustain boundaries to help interaction.
Apply understandings of diversity issues to help interaction.
Manage an active listening space.
Use self-awareness in the helping role.
Use a range of counselling skills.
Use self-reflection to facilitate counselling skills.
AdditionalityAll learners at West Herts College take part in an initial assessment in order for us to help them succeed on their chosen course.
Please bring with you a notepad and pen.
You will need to bring your Student ID card, Learning Agreement and Invoice.
When will I receive my results?
Results will be forwarded on as soon as they are received at the college. Please note that certificates, where awarded, can take up to 4 months to be received at the college before forwarding on to learners.
AssessmentWeekly journal, essay, self review, tutor observed practice and peer feedback. External assessment by video and feedback sheet.
Progression1. Advanced Certificate in Counselling Skills (CSK03) - not offered at West Herts College.
2. Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies (CST-L3) qualification leading to the possibilty of a diploma course.
