This qualification is achieved by taking a 5 day course and assessed using an externally set, internally assessed learner pack containing open response questions and a practical observation checklist.

The open response assessment method is an ongoing assessment of learner knowledge throughout the duration of the course and requires learners to provide a short response to prescribed questions. The practical observation checklist should be used to assess learners against learning outcomes contained within unit 7 of the qualification. This assessment is undertaken under supervision in the role of an events steward at a minimum of one live event. Successful learners will have to demonstrate knowledge and understanding, and where necessary, perform the relevant skills in order to show evidence of assessment coverage across all of the qualification specification.

About this course

This qualification is aimed at learners who wish to work or whom are currently working within the event industry as event steward. It is designed to provide benefit to learners through development of knowledge and skills relating to duties performed when fulfilling the role of an event steward.

The qualification is approved for delivery to learners aged 16+years. It is also recommended that learners have a basic level of English skills before enrolling onto this qualification.

Upon successful completion of the HABC Level 2 Certificate in Event Security Operations (QCF), learners may wish to progress their career and/or educational opportunities:

Level 2 Certificate in Event Security Operations (RQF)


This qualification is primarily designed for the events industry, however the learner will obtain transferrable knowledge and skills that can also be used to perform stewarding duties within a sports ground environment. This qualification is not part of an apprenticeship framework and enables the learner to gain job related knowledge and skills enabling them to work in event security.


What do these qualifications cover?

To complete the HABC Level 2 Certificate in Event Security Operations (QCF) learners should expect to undertake between 126 and 159 hours of learning, depending upon unit choice. The overall qualification requires learners to successful achieve a minimum of 20 credits, though this could risento a maximum of 24 credits if the learner chose to undertake and successfully completed all 4 optional units. These credits will be gained through the achievement of the 7 mandatory units (18 credits) and a choice of optional units from which they must achieve a minimum of 2 credits.

The topics covered in the mandatory unit group include health and safety in the workplace, how to respond to occurrences during an event, how to manage the movement of people during an event, how to reduce and manage conflict during an event, how to respond to emergencies during an event, how to provide information and advice during an event and preparation for spectator events as an event steward. Optional unit topics include how to conduct searches of people and their property before entering an event, the effective use radio communications, how to contribute to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults during an event, and report writing for event security operations.
