LEVEL 2 CERTIFICATE IN MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR
Entry Requirements
Four GCSEs at grade D including Maths and
English or Certificate in Maintenance Level 1 (Vehicle Maintenance) or
demonstration of previous automotive experience.
Description
This
is a one year course designed to give students a Level 2 qualification in
maintenance and repair, providing the knowledge, skills and understanding
required to gain employment, or progress to a Level 3 qualification.
Course
Content
The course covers a wide range of subjects including:
V3
- Maintain positive working relationships
V14 - Carry out routine
vehicle maintenance
V15 - Remove and replace engine units
V16 -
Remove and replace auxilliary electrical units
V17 - Remove and replace
chassis units
V27 - Remove and replace vehicle transmission units
Attendance
of at least 85% is necessary in order to complete the course.
It is
expected that all students will enter for the qualification.
Method
of Assessment
The course is continuously assessed with some
external assessment and testing through written and practical
assignments/tests.
Key Skills
All students will participate
in timetabled sessions designed to enhance skills in Literacy and
Numeracy. Students will receive separate certificates on successful
completion of the programme.
Other Studies (enhancement)
Students
may also choose to study for a GCSE to increase their qualifications, or
to resit a previous GCSE subject to improve a grade. To enhance employment
opportunities the course may also have additional qualifications built
into the programme.
Other Activities
Students may be required
to participate in a work experience programme as an integral part of the
course, where this is appropriate. The course includes an essential trip
to the NEC Motor Show which will cost approximately £40. An optional trip
to the NEC Motorcycle Show (approx £10) will also be organised.
Progression
This
course is a recognised route into a full-time Level 3 course, employment
or an Apprenticeship via a Training Agency.
Fees
Tuition and
registration fees are free for students aged 16-18 as at 31 August 2009
for the course period. Students aged 19+ as at 31 August 2009 will be
required to pay the fees below. You are required to pay a tuition fee for
each year of study. All fees are due at the time of your enrolment. Costs
may vary for international students, please ask for details.
Equipment
Charge
Students will be required to purchase PPE (boots, overalls
and safety glasses) and a starter tool kit which are essential for this
course and these can be purchased directly from an approved college
supplier. Order forms will be provided during the enrolment period. The
approximate cost is £100.
Consumable Items
Students will
be required to purchase general stationery items.
