Course programme

The programme will allow students to explore design and development, computer imaging techniques, 2D and 3D visual recording techniques and visual communication methods. All assignments and projects are closely focused on individual and personal development. The unique programme offers workshops in the first term, allowing students to gain experience in using the equipment and facilities within the department and develop focused technical knowledge. You will have the opportunity to study photography, graphics, illustration, fine art, fashion and textiles, design, fashion styling, digital media, animation and video production. Students will learn and develop skills through the use of industry standard software and facilities, preparing them for progression to the Level 3 Art, Design and Media. All students without a GCSE at grade A*-C in English or Maths will be required as a condition of the programme to undertake either a GCSE or Functional Skills programme.A series of specialists workshops in the first term will provide students with an introduction to the range of mediums that are available to use within the department. This process will form assignment one. Following on from this, students will be given assignments which will require them to focus on both the theoretical perspectives and practical elements of art, design and media. The work created will be in preparation for progression. Students also undertake a final major project in term three of the programme and write, plan and produce their own self-directed project and brief. During assignments, students work is regularly reviewed through 1:1 tutorials and peer reviews and critiques.
