About this course

By college interview. Candidates should have two GCSEs at Grade C or above, one being English Language or an equivalent Level 2 qualification in English. The entry requirements may be waived for students with relevant experience or qualifications. All students will have an initial assessment in Maths and English.

Course Aims:
City & Guilds have recently redeveloped this qualification in collaboration with AMSPAR (the Association
of Medical Secretaries, Practice Managers, Administrators and Receptionists). This course provides candidates with the understanding, knowledge and skills that will meet the special administration support needs of a range of health
care providers such as general practices, dental practices, hospitals, pharmacists, opticians, NHS
Trusts and health authorities.

As a medical administrator or receptionist you will fulfil a very important role within a health care environment. You will be part of the 'front-line' staff and often the first port of call for patient and relative enquiries, either by telephone or in person. The impression that you make on these people will influence their opinion of the organisation that you work for. You will also work as part of a team and liaise with a variety of colleagues and health care professions.

Once qualified, you may choose to work within general practice, hospitals, clinics or private practice.

Candidates will be studying towards obtaining the following:

Level 2 Diploma in
Medical Administration (QCF) (City & Guilds / AMSPAR )

Course Content:
The course comprises of the following units:

Medical Terminology
Medical Principles for the Administrator
Administration Skills in a Medical Environment
Communication Skills in a Medical Environment
Working in the National Health Service (NHS)
Work Experience in a Medical Environment
