Programme Delivery

Initial assessment establishes learners’ individual needs and the programme tailored accordingly. Five teaching sessions are offered and can be run in community venues, at employer’s premises or at our training centre in Huddersfield.

The morning sessions enable participants to learn more about the following areas:

  • Current developments in the field of IAG
  • Role boundaries and referrals
  • Models of guidance
  • Skills involved in one-to-one interactions with clients
  • Equal opportunities issues, principles and values
  • Reflecting on own practice and developing effectiveness

In the afternoon there are workshops where candidates can complete written work for the portfolio in a supportive environment with tutor help if required. Alternative formats are available to suit needs of clients or organisations.

Assessment and Accreditation A small amount of written work is set at each session, based on the day’s teaching and interaction skills are peer assessed. Completed work is placed in a portfolio and assessed by the tutor. The portfolios are moderated internally and externally before the qualification can be awarded.

Progression Many candidates move on from this Award to the competence based qualification such as NVQ 3/4 Advice and Guidance or the NVQ 5 LDSS (Learning, Development and Support Services) or the NOCN Level 3 Certificate.
