Course programme

The course has 6 mandatory units at Level 1, and 7 units at Level 2. You will be continually assessed and you progress through the knowledge and practical work at college. Units covered in Level 1: - 1001k Carry out safe working practices in construction - 1002k Information, quality and communicating with others - 1003k Building methods and construction technology - 1004k Produce basic woodworking joints - 1005k Maintain and use carpentry and joinery tools - 1006k Prepare and use carpentry and joinery portable power tools Units covered in Level 2 - site carpentry:z - 2002k Information - Quantities and communicating with others - 2003k Building methods and construction technology - 2008k First fixing operations - 2009k Second fix - 2010K Structural carcassing - 2011k Maintenance - 2012K Circular saw The qualification is a Diploma at Level 1 and 2 Carpentry or Joinery. Students are required to attend College over 1 or 2 years. There will be practical training and assessment in the workshop. Underpinning knowledge is delivered through classwork, assignments, tutorials and lectures. Students will also take part in portfolio building sessions. On completion you should be able to use hand tools, and powered hand tools to produce and install items such as doors, frames and linings, windows, roofs, fitments and units, partitions and cladding.There will be practical training and assessment in the workshop. Underpinning knowledge is delivered through classwork, assignments, tutorials and lectures. Students will also take part in portfolio building sessions.
