AS DRAMA AND THEATRE STUDIES
Drama is a valuable skill that can improve your communication with others and develop your creative talents. As a drama student you will study theatrical texts, learn about the major playwrights of the world and also get the chance to perform, direct and design a theatre production.

What qualifications do I need to study on the course?
Five grade C's or above at GCSE. Acceptance on to this course is dependent on a successful audition.

What will I study?

This academic course focuses on acting, directing and designing for straight theatre. If you are looking for a more vocational and practical course in performing arts then see our performing arts courses here. You will study at least 4 plays in the first year which will involve some practical work in the theatre where you will get to create your own theatre production. In addition to the practical work there is a significant writing element to the course and you will work towards a written portfolio of notes that will count towards your assessment.
You will:
· Develop dramatic skills.
· Devise and perform drama.
· Study drama performance.
· Exploration text in practical work.
· Exploration of the historical and cultural context of drama.

Method of assessment
You will be assessed through a mixture of practical and theoretical assignments as well as a written Examination.

What will I be able to progress to?
A variety of options are open to you, including the opportunity to study further at university. This is an ideal subject if you want to study drama, theatre studies and performing arts in Higher Education.
