This is a challenging subject aimed at developing student appreciation of the multi-disciplinary nature of the study of sport and exercise. You will look at sport in its widest context including participation and performance, sport as a social phenomenon, how the body adapts to exercise and the physiological, sociological and psychological factors that influence performance. You will also devise personal training programmes.

One year AS / two year AGCE.
What qualifications do I need to study on the course?
Five grade C's or above at GCSE.
What will I study?
On this course there are units in Sport Psychology, Sport Physiology and Sport History with cultural issues.
You will:
· develop your practical skills in sporting activities of your choice
· discuss the issues that surround sport in today's world
· look at how the body works and how you can help it work better
· look at how to prepare for optimum sports performance.
Method of assessment
You will be practically assessed throughout your two years of study. You will be assessed on your Performance in a sport of your choice, in two aspects of performance, coaching or officiating. This accounts for 40% of your marks. 60% of marks are assessed by a written summer examination.
What will I be able to progress to?
Combined with A-level subjects such as biology, sociology and psychology, you will be equipped to study sport science-related degrees such as sport management, sport therapy, teaching, sport coaching and physiotherapy.
