The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Agricultures equivalent to `A` level standard and encompasses both practical and academic study.The course is packed full of practical skills training combined with lectures, field trips, visits and guest speakers.This course combines academic and vocational studies.  This Level 3 qualification is designed to meet the needs of learners who may wish to work within the agriculture industry or progress to further training or onto higher education in these or related subjects. It allows learners to develop underpinning knowledge whilst practicing skills that could be used within employment in the land based industry. The course includes a period of compulsory work experience undertaken in the first year. Learners will complete a 90 credit Diploma in year 1 and subject to satisfactory progress a 120 credit Diploma or 180 credit Extended Diploma in year 2. As part of the programme learners will also complete Essential Skills Communication, Application of Number and ICT. Opportunities will also be provided for GCSEs in English, Welsh  and Mathematics.

Progression and Employment:
Successful completion of the Extended Diploma will qualify students for entry to Foundation Degree, Degree or work based learning level 4 courses in related subjects.
This course also prepares students for the practical needs of the farming industry.
There are numerous careers which this course could prepare students for: Farm Manager, Shepherd, Herdsperson, Shearer, Production and Distribution of Feeds and Seeds, Sales and Product Marketing, Welsh Government, Animal Health Officers, Nutritionist, Education and many more jobs involved in the food industry.

Additional information

Method of Assessment Knowledge and practical skills are assessed in a variety of ways including assignments, end of unit tests, case studies, practical and oral assessments. Whilst on placement students are also required to collect witness testimonies from their employer.
