Accounting
AS/A2 Level - Two-year course
This course will be of interest to students who are considering a career in accountancy or in the financial services, or for those who want to increase their knowledge of modern business practices. It is modular in nature and largely practical.

In year one (AS), it covers how the principles of Financial Accounting are applied in a variety of business organisations, both small and large. Students will learn the rudiments of manual book-keeping and will use these skills to prepare the final accounts of businesses. At the same time they will learn to demonstrate awareness of the legal, economic and social factors influencing accounting and decision-making.

In year two (A2), the course covers two other branches of accounting: Cost and Management Accounting. It also includes in-depth study of limited companies and the legal requirements affecting preparation of their accounts. During this year, students will learn to demonstrate both analytical and comprehension skills.

Careers and Further Studies
A wide range of careers in business and courses in business-related subjects will form a natural progression from this subject. An A Level Accounting qualification is not a prerequisite for degrees or careers in accountancy, but it certainly provides students with a very useful head start.

General Entry Requirements
Students will need the following:
  • An average GCSE points score of 4.7 calculated from your eight best GCSEs or equivalent vocational qualifications but must include GCSE Maths and English Language.
  • At least five GCSEs at grade C or above which must include GCSE English Language.
