Art and Design (Textiles)
AS/A2 Level - Two-year course
This course is based on creative design and will appeal to Art and Design students who wish to specialise in the area of Textiles. It is not based on the technology of textiles.

Students will be expected to develop a knowledge and understanding of constructed textiles, dyed textiles and printed textiles.

In year one (AS), in addition to practical work, students will study the relationship between ideas and design and textile work. Art and Design History research is an important part of the course. There will be one externally set practical assignment.

In year two (A2), students will research, evaluate, analyse and establish links between their own practical work and the broader art world. Students will also produce a written project linked to practical final outcomes and will develop the ability to identify and resolve creative problems.

The emphasis of coursework is on individual projects that promote personal interpretation and the development of individual style. Finally, there will be an externally set practical assignment.

Careers and Further Studies
This course is suitable for students who wish to study art, craft and design at a higher level. It is appropriate for a wide range of careers, for example, occupational therapy, retail display, textile conservation, fashion design and journalism. It is also relevant for students with an interest in the subject but do not intend to study it further.

General Entry Requirements
Students will need the following:
1. An average GCSE points score of 4.7 calculated from your eight best GCSEs or equivalent vocational qualifications but must include GCSE Maths and English Language.
2. At least five GCSEs at grade C or above which must include GCSE English Language.
