Business Studies
AS/A2 Level - Two-year course
This course will help students develop the knowledge and skills needed to understand and take part in the world of business.

Over the two years every aspect of business decisions and behaviour are addressed. This includes business objectives, marketing, accounting and finance, people in organisations, operations management and the external environment. There is a strong emphasis on the analysis and evaluation of business problems.

In year one (AS), students cover units in introduction to business and business functions.

In year two (A2), students cover mandatory units in strategic management and an optional unit will also be offered in marketing.

The examinations involve answering problemsolving style questions based on either pre-issued case study or data response materials about fictitious businesses.

Careers and Further Studies
This course combines well with a variety of other Advanced Level programmes including Accounting or Economics. It is also popular with students studying languages, sciences or humanities because of its vocational implications. Students may progress to Higher Education to study at degree level in any business-related subject.

General Entry Requirements
Students will need the following:
  • An average GCSE points score of 4.7 calculated from your eight best GCSEs or equivalent vocational qualifications but must include GCSE Maths and English Language.
  • At least five GCSEs at grade C or above which must include GCSE English Language.
