Drama and Theatre Studies
AS/A2 Level - Two-year course
At the heart of this course is the opportunity to develop an appreciation of the unique experience of live theatre. It offers the opportunity to study different theatrical styles and approaches, and to understand how all the different elements and aspects combine to produce theatre.
The course covers four essential areas: evaluating live productions seen during the course; the analysis of set texts; the study of an influential theatre practitioner and the presentation of group performances. Through the process of devising, rehearsing and performing their own work in created and scripted productions to different audiences, students build an understanding of what theatre is made of.
Careers and Further Studies
Students might choose to progress to study at degree level or at a drama college to train as an actor or technical designer. Alternatively, students might go directly into employment. Career options are wide-ranging including professional actor, theatre designer or technician, arts management, or employment within community arts, social work, teaching, arts therapy, or the media. This course would be an advantage to anyone needing effective communication skills in any career area.
