Physics
AS/A2 Level - Two-year course
Physics is the study of the nature of the universe from the smallest sub-atomic particles to the structure of the most distant galaxies and everything in-between. The course is modular; two theory units in each year and one practical assessment unit each year.

Unit 1 Matter and sub-atomic particles, waveparticle duality, electricity
Unit 2 Mechanics, motion and materials
Unit 3 Investigative and Practical Skills in which students†experimental skills are assessed throughout the course, a specified practical task is carried out and a written examination is taken.
Unit 4 Fields â€" gravitational, electric and magnetic fields, further mechanics, momentum, circular motion and oscillations.
Unit 5 Radioactivity and the random nature of radioactive decay, nuclear instability and nuclear energy. Classical concepts of energy and matter are also covered. Unit 5 also includes an optional component.
Unit 5C Practical unit, same pattern as Unit 3.

Physics opens a door to many career opportunities including engineering, medicine, research, the armed forces, law, banking and commerce.

General Entry Requirements
Students will need the following:
  • An average GCSE points score of 4.7 calculated from your eight best GCSEs or equivalent vocational qualifications but must include GCSE Maths and English Language.
  • At least five GCSEs at grade C or above which must include GCSE English Language.
