AS/A2 Level - Two-year course
This course is the perfect follow-on to GCSE Applied Science, and is ideal for anyone who wishes to pursue a career in science. Applied Science is a mixture of all three major sciences and all disciplines are taught. The course is practical-based with two out of three units in each year being coursework, and one exam.
In year one (AS), the course covers science at work, an investigation in chemistry, including laboratory analysis techniques and energy transfers in living and non-living systems.
In year two (A2), the course will include a major scientific investigation and a choice of optional units. The options cover aspects of medicine, pathology, ecology, industrial chemistry and pharmacology.
The ideal candidate for this course has an interest in all forms of science, an inquisitive and enquiring mind, always wants to know â€-why†and prefers coursework to exams.
Careers and Further Studies
This course is particularly good for anyone considering a career in a practical science field. The Applied Science A Level gives a solid foundation for employment in a variety of scientific fields.
General Entry Requirements
Students will need the following:
1. An average GCSE points score of 4.7 calculated from your eight best GCSEs or equivalent vocational qualifications but must include GCSE Maths and English Language.
2. At least five GCSEs at grade C or above which must include GCSE English Language.
