Level 3 : AS/A Level Drama and Theatre Studies (Edexcel)
Who is the course for?
Anyone who is interested in combining the activities of exploring plays, creating theatre, the performing of plays, the analysis of theatre and the critical evaluation of all of these elements.
Students must have achieved a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade A-C, one of which must be at least grade C in GCSE English Language. An audition which takes place during Wyke Start is required.
Content outline
Module 1 - Candidates study two contrasting set texts and evaluate live theatre productions seen during the course.
Module 2 - Candidates perform a scripted play and either a monologue or duologue.
Module 3 - Candidates devise, perform and evaluate an original piece of theatre.
Module 4 - Candidates study one prescribed set text and one prescribed historical period of theatrical development.
Students are required to perform in public and attend theatre performances
Method of assessment
Module 1 - Written and practical coursework - Internally assessed/Externally moderated.
Module 2 - Practical performances with written coursework - Externally assessed.
Module 3 - Written and practical coursework - Internally assessed/Externally moderated.
Module 4 - Written examination - Externally assessed.
