This qualification covers understanding the principles and practices of assessment, and assessing vocational skills, knowledge and understanding.

Course Delivery.

The course is delivered via two initial sessions of lecture, discussion and practical exercises, followed by individual support tutorials until completion of the award. You will need to have two candidates you can assess who are working towards a vocational qualification and you will need the support of an internal verifier qualified in your vocational area. This course will enable candidates to assess in the area in which they have experience and can be used for part or full-time employment anywhere in the country.

Subjects Covered .

This course covers the requirements needed in order to successfully become an assessor.

• Understanding the principles and practices of assessment
• Understanding the legal and good practice in relation to assessment
• Developing plans for assessing competence with candidates
• Assessing candidates against agreed learning outcomes
• Judging evidence against agreed standards to make assessment decisions
• Using a variety of assessment methods
• Giving candidates feedback and support on your assessment decisions
• Working with other people involved in the assessment process, such as workplace supervisors and other teachers or trainers
• Contributing to the internal quality assurance processes


You should be at least 19 years old. AMBA training does not set any other entry requirements . How many credits are required to complete it? The Award requires 9 credits. How is it assessed? It will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. You must also carry out least two assessments of 2 candidates’ occupational competence. The aim of the other mandatory unit – Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding – is to assess your performance in assessing vocational skills, knowledge and understanding in environments other than the workplace. This could be in workshops, classrooms or other training environments.

You will need to provide evidence for at least 3 of the following assessment methods:
• Simulations
• Skills tests
• Oral and written questioning
• Assignments
• Projects
• Case studies
• Recognising prior learning You will be assessed for this unit by observation of your assessment practice, examination of related work products, questioning and discussion.
You will need to show evidence of carrying out two assessments of two different learner’s skills, knowledge and understanding (4 assessments in total). Yes, you will need to be working as an assessor as you need to show competence in both knowledge and skills. How long does it take to complete? You can usually complete it in 6 months or less. What related qualifications can you progress to? Level 3 certificate in assessing vocational achievement. Course cost is £1000 in advance and £1200 on the day price (*additional onsite assessment and travel costs may be charged)
