What are the Course Details?
This course is for Beauty Therapists wishing to provide a broad range of specialist beauty services.

Is the Course for Me?
It is essential that applicants enjoy meeting people and are able to communicate well. Candidates should be aware they need to be able to stand for long periods of time while completing treatments.

What will I Learn?
Learners will study the following mandatory units, benefiting from both theoretical and practical learning, supported by demonstrations:
  • Contributing to Financial Effectiveness of the Business
  • Promote Additional Products or Services to Clients
  • Ensure Your Own Actions Reduce Risks to Health & Safety
  • Improve Body/Face & Skin Conditioning using Electro-Therapy (two units)
  • Head & Body Massage Treatments
  • Electrical Epilation using Diathermy, Galvanic & Blend Techniques

Learners will also choose one of the following optional units:
  • Provide Self Tanning Treatments
  • Provide Massage using Pre-Blended Aromatherapy Oils
  • Provide Indian Head Massage

Learners may also take advantage of courses on Dermalogica Skincare products and retail sales, St Tropez Self Tanning and interest talks from suppliers.

How will I Learn?
A large proportion of the course is practical, with learners being based in 'Images', the College's on-site training salon. In salon sessions, theory will be covered together with practical demonstrations. Learners will work on their peers before moving on to members of the public.
Alongside the practical sessions, learners will benefit from classroom based study, covering subjects such as Anatomy and Physiology and Salon Management. As well as a considerable amount of individual study, learners will be required to prepare and present work to a group.
Please note: there is a strict dress code in the salon, and as such learners are required to supply and wear salon whites, costing approximately £90 (x 2 sets). Learners must also supply a needle holder, needles and gloves, costing approximately £70.

How will I be Assessed?
Learners will complete written assignments throughout the year, which will involve self-directed study (time for private study may be built into the timetable). Learners are expected to make full use of this time by completing necessary assignments and reading. To assist with research and other work, all learners have access to the College's library and IT facilities.
A designated period of time will be given to each learner to complete managerial duties in Images, for example financial effectiveness, day-to-day running of the beauty salons and writing reports. Learners will also be able to take responsibility for the hydrotherapy suite.
Progress charts are positioned in the salons and learners are encouraged to assess their own progress and action plan for written and practical work.
Practical assessments are completed throughout the year. These are carried out on members of the public, and in some cases it is the responsibility of the learner to provide suitable clients. Oral questions will accompany these practical assessments.
Learners are expected to work in the evenings as part of their training.
Learners will build a portfolio of evidence throughout the year. Guidance will be given on format, but learners will be responsible for collecting the actual evidence.

What Enrichments are Available?
Learners will have access to various activities within the College to develop and broaden their experience of College life.

Are there any Trips or Visits?
During the course learners can expect at least one visit to one of the various trade shows that are held each year around the UK.

Is there any Work Experience?
In order to broaden experience learners will need to undertake two weeks (10 days minimum) work experience within the industry during their course, which is to be arranged by the learner.

What can I Progress to?
Learners will usually progress into employment. Past learners have become self-employed, running salons and mobile beauty therapy businesses. Others have gained employment in health farms or cruise liners.

Other Learner's Experiences;
A range of success stories are on display in the Images building. Including written comments from past learners.

Please Note:
Acceptance onto courses may be subject to a satisfactory interview and references. For some courses learners may also be required to pay for a CRB disclosure.
