Course programme

Summary: This course combines the study of Business with Property Services.

Course description: This new course combines a Diploma in Business with Property Services and is the first of its kind in the country. This is a one year course with the option to progress to a second year to complete further Business and Property Services qualifications.
The course will provide you with a grounding in business whilst learning about  aspects of the property profession. As part of your programme of study, you will work towards nationally recognised qualifications in sales and lettings that are accredited by the NFoPP (National Federation of Property Professionals).
You will be working towards 2 qualifications in your first year:

L3 Diploma in Business (equivalent to 3 AS)

NFoPP Level 3 Award in the Sale of Residential Property
In addition, you will undertake work placements within estate agents and other property businesses, giving you practical experience of how the property sector works and of the many job roles available within it - from working in private and commercial estate agents, to property surveying, architectural design, lettings and valuing and auctioneering. There will also be seminars provided by guest speakers from those working in the industry; focused talks on specific topics in relation to property services/management.

Entry requirements: 5 GCSEs grade C or above, including English and Maths or equivalent qualifications.

Learning outcome: The Level 3 Diploma in Business consists of 9 units, 3 of which are Mandatory. The mandatory units are: The Business Environment; Business Resources and Introduction to Marketing.  Six further units will form part of the programme of study, examples of which are Internet Marketing,  Developing Teams in Business and Business Accounts.
The NFoPP Level 3 Technical Award in the Sale of  Residential Property consists of 4 units. These are: Unit 1 - Health and Safety, Security and General Law, Unit 2 - Law Relating to Residential Property Sales, Unit 3 - Practice Relating to Residential Property Sales, Unit 4 - Property Appraisal and Basic Building Construction.

Assessment: The Level 3 Diploma in Business is assessed through course work and is assessed at Pass, Merit and Distinction levels. This could be in a variety of formats; written assignments/reports through to presentations. All units must be passed in order to achieve the qualification.
The NFoPP Awards are assessed through exams in the form of multiple-choice questions. All units must be passed in order to achieve the Awards.

Academic progression: Progression can be made onto a top-up year of study in which further Business units can be achieved (with A level equivalence) together with NFoPP qualifications with a focus on Residential Letting and Property Management.
It must be remembered that progression is conditional on achieving Year 1 qualifications plus meeting standards of attendance and behaviour during the first year of study. Progression may also be to employment, apprenticeship and or further and higher education, depending on qualifications on entry.

Career progression: On completion of the course students will be well placed to secure jobs in the expanding property profession, whilst the core BTEC business modules gained mean the option is available to progress to a wide range of other jobs.
