The course will be delivered using a practical method covering a range of topics to help candidates develop an advanced knowledge of the structure and function of BSL, and to gain an understanding of the Deaf community and culture through contact teaching hours with our tutors and the use of Sign Solutions’ video technology and feedback.

This programme is suitable for candidates who have completed the BSL Level 2 training programme. Candidates will be given the opportunity to study the features of BSL in detail, in order to operate independently and at an advanced level in the target language upon completion of the course. The Level 3 qualification is equivalent to an AS/A2 level in Modern Languages.

The tutor will use classroom based teaching, individual or group tutorials and observed practice to ensure candidates develop their skills. Candidates will also be expected to complete additional home study of up to 130 hours during the course.

Topics covered:

The course is split into three units, each of which will be assessed separately at the end of the course:

· BSL Sign Linguistics Knowledge (20 Guided Learning Hours)

· Understanding Varied BSL in a range of work and social situations (65 GLH)

· Use of BSL in a range of work and social situations (65 GLH)

Programme dates and details:

The programme will be delivered at Rectory Court (Alvechurch, South Birmingham) and will run on a Tuesday afternoon (1300-1700) commencing 15th October 2013-August 2014.

Programme fee: £1,000* + vat.

*additional costs: unit registration fees of £132 including vat

Assessments are being held on 11th April 2014

assessment fee : £100 + vat*

*non-refundable however, 50% will be refunded from course fee

if a place is offered and accepted.
