This course leads to the Certificate in Dental Decontamination qualification and is for people who work in a dental setting and decontaminate instruments & devices as part of their normal job role. It is suitable for qualified dental nurses wishing to specialise in decontamination and also those new to dentistry who may wish to progress to do the Level 3 Diploma in Dental Nursing.

To complete this course, you will need to be working in a dental setting, with access to the decontamination room and also have access to the internet and be computer literate.

The course follows the syllabus set out by City & Guilds as well as being approved by the General Dental Council; this will give you the necessary knowledge and expertise to enter for the exam.

You will be assigned an assessor whom you can contact via phone or email in case you get stuck or need further clarification on a subject. If your main assessor works at the office part time we have a number of Dental Qualified assessors who will be available for you to contact within office hours Monday – Friday 9am -4pm. Our assessors are there for the learners benefit but will not put learners under any pressure.

• Validation and maintenance of dental instruments and equipment
• Principles of infection control in the dental environment

• You need to have a good level of English and vocabulary – written and spoken, & also level 2 numeracy or equivalent to enable you to sit the exam.
• You must be computer literate as all of your assessments will be completed on our online portfolio.
• Access to the internet is imperative to access the online portfolio.
• You must have access to working and carrying out all aspects of the decontamination process.

Correspondence

You will need to complete a set of written assessments within your online portfolio. You will be expected to study in your own time as well as observations while you are at work & will require the agreement of your employer to take video evidence.

(You must have access to either an I Pad / Smartphone or video camera to ensure you can upload evidence.

This will then be assessed by your tutor. You must be able to attend our Dentrain training centre in Bolton for examination.

As with any course, completion of the course does not guarantee success in the exam although Dentrain does gain consecutively high pass rates.

Cost – £280 inclusive of exam fee Course length – 6 months Courses start throughout the year

This cost includes all course materials, access to online portfolio and resources and 2 sittings of the exam.

Any further sittings of the exam will be a charge of 10 per exam.
