Aerial cutting of trees using free-fall techniques. 

This course is about the removal of single limb/parts of tree canopy to the complete removal of trees without the use of rigging equipment.

It is also about the removal of tree sections from the crown using free-fall or hand thrown techniques. You will carry out cutting operations using appropriate access techniques. You will gain access and carry out cutting operations in line with the above assessment from a rope and harness.

NPTC Level 3 certificate Aerial Cutting of Trees using Free Fall techniques

How will I be assessed?

Assessment by an independent NPTC appointed assessor, usually in the week following the course.

What are the entry requirements?

Minimum qualifications: Full level 2

Candidates must hold a certificate of competence in  NPTC Level 2  Maintenance, Cross-cutting and Felling Small Trees and also have certificate of competence in NPTC Level 2 Tree Climbing & Aerial Rescue before undertaking this course.

What else do I need to know?

All candidates must wear forestry safety boots and suitable outdoor clothing.  

PPE is available from the college but please bring as much of your own as possible to include: chainsaw trousers, gloves, helmet with visor and ear defenders.

One passport photograph is required at the start of the course for registration purposes. 

Practical training will take place on a woodland site away from the college campus and it is the candidates responsibility to travel there.  A packed lunch would be required as there are no facilities for meals/drinks.
