Course Content

Equivalent to the former Certificate in Management this sought after management qualification consists of seven units of learning, five of which are mandatory core units. The remaining two units are a free choice to suit your own job role.

Core unit topics include:

  • planning and managing the work,
  • creating effective working relationships
  • developing great management skills
  • identifying resource requirements, creating and monitoring resource plans,
  • identifying stakeholders and their needs
  • continuous improvement
  • understanding change
  • managing and communicating information
  • developing individuals and teams
  • managing performance reviews

Core units: 3001, 3002, 3003, 3004, 3005

3001 Personal development as a first line manager
Content includes: planning and managing the work, creating effective working relationships, understanding how to develop great management skills. Credit:6

3002 Resource planning
Content includes: identifying resource requirements, creating resource plans, monitoring and reviewing resource usage and responding to changes. Credit: 6

3003 Meeting stakeholder needs
Content includes: identifying stakeholders and their needs, continuous improvement, making a case for change, and understanding how to gain commitment to changes. Credit: 6

3004 Managing and communicating information
Content includes: data and information collection and analysis, trend analysis, making and presenting conclusions. Credit: 6

3005 Developing individuals and teams
Content includes: setting and managing objectives, performance reviews, identifying development opportunities for teams and individuals. Credit: 6

Option units: Free choice from remaining units - 2 required

Assessment:

This management qualification consists of seven units of learning. In order to achieve the Diploma in First Line Management participants must successfully complete a written work-based assignment for each unit of around 1500-2000 words.

You will be allocated a tutor who will be your personal guide, mentor and coach. They will be an expert in their field and distance learning. You can be confident that their support and help will give you every opportunity to be successful. Your personal tutor will also assess the work you have to submit for your qualification. They will provide you with full written feedback.

  • registration with the CMI for the qualification which lasts for three years
  • membership of the CMI for three years
  • all study materials
  • additional resources to help you maximise your study time and help you with assignments
  • unlimited, pro-active support from your own experienced personal tutor for 12 months
